Biomes and Action

Connecting science at Brazil biomes.

Brazil is a country of rich biodiversity, home to six main biomes: the Amazon, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest, Caatinga, Pampas, and Pantanal. This diversity is essential for maintaining ecosystems and global environmental balance.

Brazilian biomes face growing challenges related to soil degradation, such as erosion, loss of organic matter, and compaction. Human activities, such as deforestation, intensive agriculture, and uncontrolled urbanization, have intensified these problems, putting the sustainability of production systems and biodiversity at risk.

The Brazilian Soil Health Partnership develops specific actions to promote soil health, considering the particularities of each biome:

  • Amazon: We encourage regenerative practices and systems to combat deforestation and improve soil resilience.

  • Cerrado: We work on restoring degraded pastures and integrated systems, seeking to increase production capacity in a sustainable manner.

  • Atlantic Forest: We work on forest restoration and carbon monitoring projects, essential for preserving soil and biodiversity.

  • Caatinga: We implement management techniques that promote soil water retention, essential for coping with extreme drought conditions.

  • Pampa: We encourage the sustainable management of natural pastures, protecting soils from erosion.

  • Pantanal: We develop studies and practices for the sustainable use of wetlands, minimizing the impact of human activities.

Through partnerships, we generate innovative solutions that balance productivity and conservation. Each biome receives special attention, as we believe that healthy soils are the foundation for a sustainable future in Brazil.
