Deputy General Coordinator

Victória Santos Souza
Research Coordinator
Agronomist (2017), Master (2018), and PhD (2022) in Agronomy - Soil Science from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ). Worked as a substitute professor (2019-2021) in the Department of Soils at UFRRJ, teaching Soil Physics and Agricultural Suitability and Soil Management.
PhD candidate in Soils and Plant Nutrition at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture – ESALQ/USP. She holds a master’s degree in Crop Production from IF Goiano (2022) and a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from UNEMAT (2020). She completed a technical-scientific exchange at Rothamsted Research in the United Kingdom, where she worked on carbon modeling in soils using RothC and Landscape models, applying programming languages such as Python and R. She is a member of the Soil Health & Management (SOHMA) research group, focusing on soil management and health. Her main research areas include soil health, greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂, N₂O, and CH₄), and the relationship of these processes with soybean productivity, especially in systems with cover crops and their resilience to climate change.
Master in Agronomy (Graduate Program in Agronomy: Agriculture and Environment - UFSM, 2011-2013), PhD in Sciences, concentration area in Soils and Plant Nutrition (Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture, University of São Paulo - ESALQ/USP, 2013-2016). Visiting researcher (2015) at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) - National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment (NLAE), Ames-IA, and Postdoctoral Fellow (2016-2018) at the Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture (CENA/USP). His research aims to quantify and understand the impacts of land use and management practices on soil health, carbon dynamics, and the provision of ecosystem services in agricultural and natural ecosystems. He is Deputy Director of the Center for Carbon Research in Tropical Agriculture (CCARBON), Deputy Director of the Nature Based Solutions (NBS) program of the Research Center for Greenhouse Gas Innovation (RCGI), and coordinator of the Brazilian Soil Health Partnership. He is a CNPq Research Productivity Fellow and Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He received the Bunge Foundation Youth Award in 2022 (Agrarian Sciences - "carbon credit and regenerative agriculture") and has been listed since 2021 as one of the most influential researchers in global science.
Develops projects in the field of Pedology (soil genesis, morphology, and classification) with an emphasis on carbon accumulation mechanisms and microbial activity in Black Soils. Also conducts research on the nature and functioning of organic carbon in soils under different climatic and edaphoclimatic conditions in Brazil. Postdoctoral fellow (FAPESP) at the Department of Soil Science at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture - USP, under the Soil Health Management Research Group - SOHMA, and member of the Brazilian Soil Health Partnership.

Maria Eduarda Santana S. Fonseca
Scientific Outreach
Undergraduate student in Agronomic Engineering at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ/USP), focusing on soil management and health. Currently, she works as a scientific outreach fellow at the Brazilian Soil Health Partnership, where she develops extension activities, science communication, and researcher engagement. She is an active member of the Soil Health and Management Research Group (SOHMA), serving as the marketing leader, after previously being the undergraduate coordinator. In 2024, she was awarded by the Brazilian Society of Soil Science with the title of Best Poster Presentation at the Paulista Meeting of Soil Science.
